Terms of Service

Last updated: 2026-05-31
Exhibit is an independent project. It is NOT affiliated with, associated with, or endorsed by the American Bar Association (ABA) or any law school. Data is sourced directly from public ABA Standard 509 disclosures and U.S. government datasets, verify all figures against the original source before relying on them.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Exhibit (the "Site"), located at exhibit509.com, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.

2. Nature of the Service

Exhibit is a free, informational data viewer that organizes publicly available law school information, including data derived from ABA Standard 509 Required Disclosures and public datasets from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA), and Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The Site is provided for general informational and educational purposes only.

3. Not Professional Advice

Nothing on the Site constitutes legal, financial, admissions, or career advice. Figures shown are summaries and may be incomplete, outdated, or inaccurate. Always consult official sources and qualified professionals before making decisions.

4. No Warranty

The Site is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure.

5. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operators of Exhibit shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Site or its data.

6. Data Sources & Attribution

Source data originates from third parties, including abarequireddisclosures.org, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA), and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Exhibit claims no affiliation with these organizations, and any names or marks belong to their respective owners.

7. Copyright & Legal Basis

Exhibit presents raw factual data, tuition figures, bar-passage rates, GPA and LSAT medians, employment counts, and similar numbers. Under Feist Publications, Inc. v. Rural Telephone Service Co., 499 U.S. 340 (1991), facts are not copyrightable: copyright protects an author's original selection and arrangement of a compilation, not the underlying facts themselves, which no one can own. Exhibit extracts and re-presents those underlying facts in its own independent organization and design.

The BLS, BEA, and HUD datasets are works prepared by officers or employees of the U.S. Government as part of their official duties and are therefore not subject to copyright protection in the United States under 17 U.S.C. § 105; they are effectively in the public domain.

This section explains the basis on which Exhibit republishes factual data. It is a statement of the operators' understanding, not legal advice, and nothing here waives any third party's rights in original compilations, software, trademarks, or branding.

8. Cookie & Cache Notice

Exhibit is a static website. We do not set tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or analytics cookies. We do not track you across sites. We have no advertising relationship with any school.

8.1 What we store on your device

The Site uses your browser's local storage to remember a small number of preferences that make repeat visits smoother. All of this stays on your device; none of it is transmitted to us.

KeyPurpose
exhibit_themeWhether you chose light or dark mode.
exhibit_compareThe list of schools you've pinned for side-by-side comparison.
exhibit_profileYour last LSAT / uGPA / state entries, so Match Me and the Net Price calculator stay pre-filled.
exhibit_calcYour loan-calculator inputs (rates, principal, term).
exhibit_tour_seenWhether you've completed the first-visit tour, so it doesn't re-fire.
exhibit_disclaimer_dismissed
exhibit_cookie_dismissed
exhibit_mobile_banner_dismissed
Whether you've dismissed the banners at the top/bottom of the page.

You can clear all of this at any time via your browser's site-data settings. None of it is required to use the Site.

8.2 Hosting & cache

Exhibit is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. As the hosting and content-delivery network, Cloudflare receives standard web request data (IP address, user-agent, request URL, timestamp) for every page load, this is what lets the Site serve and lets Cloudflare detect abuse, mitigate denial-of-service attacks, and route requests to the nearest edge location. Cloudflare's data handling is governed by its Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy. Cloudflare may set its own technical cookies under its own privacy practices to operate the security and performance layer; we do not control those and we do not access their contents.

Static files (HTML, CSS, JS, images, the compressed ABA dataset) are cached on Cloudflare's global edge network so the Site loads quickly. Your browser also caches static assets to avoid re-downloading them on repeat visits. Cache headers are public and conservative, HTML refreshes every 5 minutes; images and the dataset bundle cache for one year with an immutable hint (a content change ships under a new filename, so the cache is safe).

The Site also installs a Service Worker (sw.js) that caches the app shell locally on your device for offline use and fast repeat loads. The cache is named after the current build (e.g. exhibit-v1.49.0); when a new build deploys, the old cache is purged automatically on your next visit. You can manually clear it via your browser's site-data settings.

8.3 Third-party assets

To render the map and typography, the Site loads a small number of assets from third parties. When your browser fetches these, those providers may receive your IP address and user-agent and may log them under their own privacy policies. We do not control that processing and we set no cookies through it. The third parties currently used:

If you prefer to avoid these requests, blocking third-party requests in your browser will still let the underlying data and tables render, only the map and styled fonts will degrade.

9. Security

The Site is served over HTTPS only. HTTP-to-HTTPS redirection is forced at the edge. HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS) is enabled with a one-year max-age + includeSubDomains + the preload directive, so browsers will not allow plaintext connections to this domain. Additional security response headers in effect on every request:

If you discover a security issue, please email [email protected] rather than disclosing it publicly. We'll respond promptly.

10. Acceptable Use

You agree not to misuse the Site, including attempting to disrupt it, scrape it at abusive volumes, or use it for any unlawful purpose. The full ABA Standard 509 dataset is publicly downloadable from the source at abarequireddisclosures.org, please pull from there rather than scraping Exhibit.

11. AI Crawler Policy

Exhibit explicitly welcomes AI training and retrieval crawlers (GPTBot, ClaudeBot, anthropic-ai, Google-Extended, PerplexityBot, Applebot-Extended, CCBot, cohere-ai, Meta-ExternalAgent, Bytespider, Amazonbot, and others), and publishes a machine-readable summary at /llms.txt per the llmstxt.org proposed standard. If your assistant cites Exhibit data, please link to either the relevant Exhibit page or the underlying ABA disclosure at abarequireddisclosures.org, the authoritative source is the disclosure itself.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms at any time. Continued use of the Site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the latest version.

13. Contact

Questions about these Terms or the Site: [email protected].

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-05-31

Exhibit is an independent project by 509α. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and what we don't do.

What We Collect Directly

The Site itself collects no personal data from your use of the dashboards. If you submit our feedback form (hosted on Google Forms) we collect the feedback content you submit, data corrections, school suggestions, feature requests, and, only if you choose to provide it, your email address.

What Our Host Collects

Cloudflare, as our hosting and CDN provider, receives standard web request data for every page view (IP address, user-agent, request URL, timestamp). Cloudflare uses this to serve the Site, mitigate denial-of-service attacks, and operate its security and performance layer. We do not have access to individual request logs. Cloudflare's data handling is governed by its Privacy Policy.

How We Use What We Collect

Feedback is used to correct data and improve the Site. If you provide your email and opt in, we use it solely to notify you when new dataset cycles ship and to send occasional updates from 509α. We do not sell, rent, or share your email with third parties.

Legal Basis & Consent

We send launch and update emails only with your consent, given via the opt-in checkbox on our form. You can withdraw that consent at any time by clicking unsubscribe in any email or by contacting us, we'll honor it promptly.

Processors

Form responses are collected and stored through Google Forms (subject to Google's privacy practices). When we send emails, we may use a third-party email provider to manage delivery and unsubscribes. The Site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages, which may log basic technical request data as described above.

Retention

We retain your email until you ask us to delete it, or until we no longer have a legitimate purpose for keeping it. Feedback content is retained as part of our development history so we can track which corrections have been applied.

Your Choices

You can unsubscribe from emails anytime, and you can request deletion of your email or feedback by emailing [email protected]. We aim to respond within 14 days. If you're an EU/UK resident, GDPR rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, and portability apply, same email reaches us.

Children

The Site is intended for prospective law students, who are adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has submitted information through our form, please contact us and we'll delete it.

Changes

We may update this policy; the "Last updated" date reflects the latest version.
